The Power of Workshops

There is something reassuring about sitting in a room with random strangers. They do not know you. You do not know them. The only thing that is known is that everyone in that room is present for that specific workshop.

For an hour or two, a group of people get to learn together about a common interest. This allows those who do not have friends or family with similarities find others who do. Even if it is for a moment, there is something gratifying about seeing others who are just as fascinated by a topic as you.

Personally, this satisfaction comes from believing that there are other oddballs out there who want to learn more. Whether it is about traditional folk dancing or understanding what memories are, it is being able to learn with other people that makes learning fun. A person can self study all he or she or ze wants, but I just happen to not be one of them.
